    Description

A pair of vintage 1930s to 1940s handcrafted sterling silver pierced floral dress clips by the Cape Cod jewelry artist, Stavre Gregor Panis. The clips feature a leaf in the center surrounded by 5 engraved cutout flowers. Each clip is marked Sterling and with the mark of Stavre Gregor Panis which is SGP in a triangle.
Stavre Gregor Panis was born in 1889 in Dardha, Albania and emigrated to the United States in 1905. He worked as a jeweler and silversmith in the Boston area where he met his wife, Gladys Hamilton when they were students at what is now the Massachusetts College of Art. They were both members of the prestigious art guild known as the Boston Society of Arts & Crafts in the mid-1920s. After marrying in 1927 they moved to Falmouth, Massachusetts in 1932 when they opened their silversmith and jewelry business together. Gladys was responsible for many of the designs and managing the business. After Stavre died in 1974 she continued running the business into her 90s and trained a close friend, Mike O' Donnell in the craft. Gladys passed away at the age of 101 in 2001.
