Description
Up for auction a vintage hand painted souvenir plate from Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Manufactured by Takito and Company, specializing in luster ware, was in business from 1880-1948. Wares, from this company, marked Nippon typically date to 1891-1921. Old Orchard was originally settled in 1657 by Thomas Rogers. The town name was taken from his old abandoned apple orchard, which survived 150 years, and was a beacon of land for sailors on the Atlantic Ocean. The plate measures 6 5/16" in diameter and weighs 6.3 ounces prior to packing for shipping.
This piece is in good vintage condition without cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. The plate is brightly colored in luster glazing with minimal wear and rubs. At the top of the plate there is some glaze smears and right under the wide rim is two areas of stacking rubs at the top and bottom. I see a couple of minor scratches in the black lettering at the top. There are a couple of random spots of yellow glaze on the wide rim, inclusions, glaze bubble and very minor wear to the gold rim lining.
Happy to combine shipping, please allow us to send a revised invoice so the postage will be correct. Thank you for looking.
