    Description

    This handsome cream pitcher is an elaborate piece of Mason ware, a sturdy English pottery known as Mason’s Patent Ironstone China.  It measures approximately 4 ¾” in height, 5 ½” in length (including handle and spout) and 3 ¾” in width and features eight panels with an ivory background that displays Mason’s “Leeds” pattern (circa 1932-1940).  This finely detailed pattern presents a picturesque city scene decorated with vibrant earth tones and areas of applied copper luster.  The border around the scalloped rim is accented with a fancy floral design and a heavy overlay of copper luster.  What appears to be a face is embossed on the handle.  Mason’s backstamp is printed on the base along with the incised numeral, “36”.  Despite some manufacturing flaws, minor crazing and slight wear to the copper luster, this vintage pitcher is in very good condition with no evidence of damage.
