    Description

19th Century Mason's Ironstone Gravy Boat with Cover by Ashworth Bros. "Hanley" # 9968.  The white ground bowl is decorated with hand painted colors of blue, red and orange.  The design features flowers, leaves, and a Greek Key Design.  The bowl has two raised handles with a leaf shape at the top part. The rim is slightly scalloped. The bottom is pinched with a flared base. The pieces are trimmed with an orange or ocre color. The cover has a hole for spoon placement, and a handle with leaf designs on the top and bottom. The base is marked in red, "87DD".  It has a unique shape -- nice heavy piece.
SIZE:  5 7/8 inches high x 7 3/4 inches long from edge of handle to edge of handle x 4 3/4 inches wide.
CONDITION:  Due to age and use, the bowl has some wear. The bowl interior has a short curved line that looks like a hairline or scratch mark. There is very slight age discoloration on the bottom part of the interior. There is blue misplaced color on the top rim. The outer edge of the rim has a few nicks, and the outer edge of the bottom part of the base has tan discoloration.
Wonderful serving piece.  The gravy boat can also be used as a sugar bowl.
